Letters and sounds
Useful games include first-letter choices, rhymes, uppercase/lowercase matching and short word building. The IES foundational-reading guide gives strong emphasis to awareness of speech sounds and linking those sounds to letters.
Numbers and quantities
Counting objects, comparing, number bonds to 10, simple addition/subtraction, patterns and shapes provide a wider foundation than memorizing a long list of arithmetic facts.
Following a rule
Simon-style sequences, mazes and spot-the-difference activities practice ordered behavior and attention control. Do not treat a high score in one game as a school-readiness test; a digital task captures only a narrow situation.
A small learning routine
Try 10–15 minutes: one language game, one math or logic game, then a short offline task. If the child is tired, finishing after a successful round is usually better than completing a rigid plan.
